TALKING WITH FRIENDS
We have received many complementary messages about our singing in December. We could not have done it without you!
From its beginning in 1995, the Joe Beasley Memorial Singing has grown in stature, attendance and enthusiasm. This year, at the request of many of our singers, we sang from three books-the Denson, the Cooper and the Lloyd Hymnal, and we attempted a Choctaw-language hymn. Dr. Julietta Haynes, in particular, requested that we sing from the Lloyd Hymnal, and we were happy to honor her request. We plan to continue this expansion into other shape-note traditions.
In addition, June Melton recorded our singing, and placed the recording on her web-site, www.pilgramproductions.net. You can check it out on the links page.
The singing was wonderful, but what made the weekend so special was the fellowship around the table and the joy in singing.
For all of you who came from far and near, THANK YOU !
