The Foundation provided "non-scholarship" assistance to four attendees at the Camp Fasola in Anniston, Alabama : Cathryn Baker, Hannah Baker, Rachel Baker and Lucy Leddington Wright. From left to right : Hannah Baker, Rachel Baker, Cathryn Baker and Lucy Wright Cathryn, Hannah and Rachel Baker are a family from Chicago. Cathryn is a long-time singer with the Hyde Park group. She wanted to attend the Camp with her daughters, who are new to Sacred Harp. By the end of the Camp, Hannah and Rachel had become competent, confident leaders. Hannah Baker Rachel Baker Cathryn Baker Cathryn and Hannah Baker Rachel Baker Lucy Leddington Wright is the daughter of Paul Leddington Wright, the Musical Director of the BBC program, "Songs of Praise". During the taping of an episode in Nashville, in October of 2002, a group of Sacred Harp singers performed "Holy Manna". Mr. Wright was impressed by what he heard. When he returned to England, he showed the tape, and a copy of the 1991 book. to Lucy, who is a student at Cardiff University studying for a MA in Musicology. After hearing "Holy Manna", she decided to write her dissertation on the Sacred Harp community in the UK, and wanted to do background and comparison research on the Sacred Harp in the US. We were happy to assist her.
The Foundation has provided assistance through Johnny Humber, a singer from Fayette, Alabama, to a radio station in Houston, Mississippi, by providing sponsorship of a weekly program of Sacred Harp music on Sunday mornings.
